Music journalist since 1994 and DJ since 97, Marc Piñol began playing records at Nitsa Club (Barcelona) in 1999 and he was playing there as a resident until 2013. He has been elected best DJ of the year several times in the most important Spanish music magazines.
As a DJ, he can play almost every kind of music – he’s done warm-ups for artists as diverse as Andrew Weatherall, Todd Terry, DJ Krush, Larry Heard, Michael Mayer, Dave Clarke and many, many more. He is one of Ivan Smagghe’s favorite DJs too: “he is the best resident I know and one of my favorite DJs”, said Smagghe. “Of course, one should have many ‘favorite DJs’. For all hours, moods and genres. But playing with him is like playing with a version of myself that could still surprise me: from the acquired taste for borderline trance records to warped up disco pop, etc, etc”.
Piñol is now involved with Hivern Discs, John Talabot’s label, releasing his own productions and remixes. After several remixes (The xx, Populette & Remain, Fasenuova, David Shaw and The Beat and many more), he’s upping the ante and has just finished a 12” for Hivern Discs with the mighty Hugo Capablanca (Gomma, Items & Things), besides a bunch of new remixes, new edits for the Hivern cult sub-label Hiverned and a well-waited first 12” of his own in Labelle Records.
